About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential automotive marketplace client in their search for a Senior Data Scientist to join their award-winning data science team in London. Our client operates at significant scale, connecting buyers and sellers through technology, and data science powers every critical decision across their platform.

This is a hands-on, high-ownership role where you'll work centrally across Commercial, Marketing, Product, Finance, Engineering, and Operations teams. You'll develop and deploy ML and AI solutions that drive measurable outcomes across a two-sided marketplace serving millions of users.

Responsibilities

You will lead data science initiatives from problem framing through to deployment, monitoring, and iteration—delivering the full production lifecycle. With no dedicated ML engineering function, you'll ensure your solutions are robust, scalable, and performing in production long after they ship.

• Design and build LLM-powered solutions where they create genuine business value—document processing, intelligent search, content understanding, and operational automation
• Develop pricing models, propensity signals, demand forecasting, and personalised recommendations that drive conversion and efficiency
• Connect your work directly to business outcomes—whether improving marketing efficiency, sharpening commercial decisions, or increasing user conversion
• Prototype and experiment rapidly, defining rigorous success metrics upfront and validating honestly before committing to full-scale development
• Partner closely with cross-functional stakeholders to understand problems deeply, translating findings into clear, actionable narratives for technical and non-technical audiences
• Contribute to shared best practices, documentation, and standards that raise the bar for the data science function

What We're Looking For

Commercial and Strategic Skills:

• Commercial mindset with proven ability to connect models to revenue, efficiency, or customer outcomes
• Strong stakeholder partnership experience working with commercial, marketing, and product teams
• Sound judgement navigating the ML/GenAI tooling landscape—knowing when classical ML is right, when GenAI unlocks new value, and when simpler solutions are more appropriate
• Understanding of supply/demand dynamics in marketplace or two-sided platform contexts (bonus)

Technical Skillset:

• Proven track record building, deploying, and maintaining ML models in Python in production environments
• Full-lifecycle delivery experience including model training, versioning, monitoring, and champion/challenger experimentation without dedicated ML engineering support
• Hands-on experience building LLM-powered solutions that deliver measurable business value
• Solid experience in cloud ML environments with software engineering principles—version control, code reviews, unit testing, containerisation
• Strong foundation in statistical evaluation and experiment design
• Proficiency with Python, SQL, dbt, Snowflake, BigQuery, Looker, Docker, GitHub, Vertex AI Pipelines or Kubeflow, and LLM APIs such as Gemini or Claude
