Senior Data and Cloud Architect

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential data consultancy that builds enterprise platforms and AI systems for large-scale organizations across the UK and Africa. They need a senior-level architect who can act as a trusted technical advisor and translate complex business requirements into secure, scalable data solutions.

This is a fully remote position based in South Africa, with access to co-working spaces if you prefer working outside your home.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement enterprise lakehouse environments using Unity Catalog, Delta Live Tables, and Spark compute clusters
• Lead cloud data modernization initiatives and migrate legacy systems to cloud-native architectures
• Drive infrastructure-as-code deployments using Terraform, building secure data network perimeters with Private Link and hierarchical firewall configurations
• Handle technical pre-sales activities including proof-of-concept demonstrations, scoping documents, and architecture planning for prospective clients
• Serve as the strategic bridge between business stakeholders and technical delivery teams

What We're Looking For

• 8+ years of experience in data or cloud engineering roles
• At least 5 years specifically focused on enterprise Databricks architecture
• Deep hands-on expertise with the Databricks ecosystem, Terraform, CI/CD pipelines, and identity federation protocols (OIDC or SAML)
• Advanced proficiency in at least one major cloud platform (GCP, AWS, or Azure)
• Current Databricks certifications such as Data Engineer Professional or Lakehouse Architect
• Professional-level Cloud Architect certification from a major provider
• Strong ability to communicate complex technical concepts to business executives and influence decision-making
