Responsibilities

We are representing a global consumer products and technology organization seeking a Senior Cloud Engineer to join their connected device engineering team at Battersea Power Station. In this role, you will:

  • Design and develop scalable cloud services and APIs that power a growing ecosystem of connected consumer devices
  • Build IoT connectivity platforms using AWS IoT Core that enable reliable device-to-cloud communication for millions of connected products
  • Collaborate with mobile, embedded, and hardware teams to deliver end-to-end connected product experiences
  • Work with product management to define and refine product requirements
  • Implement distributed systems using Lambda, Docker, Fargate, and AWS services that integrate cloud infrastructure with mobile apps and connected devices
  • Write, execute, and automate tests to ensure reliability, performance, and consumer-ready quality at scale
  • Monitor, debug, and optimize cloud infrastructure performance using CloudWatch for consumer-scale deployment across diverse device ecosystems
  • Work closely with cross-functional development teams spanning the entire software stack from embedded to mobile
  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering best practices
  • Collaborate with senior technical leaders on cloud and IoT architecture decisions
  • Partner with QA, mobile, and firmware engineers to ensure seamless integration across the stack
  • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through code reviews and pair programming
  • Share knowledge and best practices with the broader engineering team

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience
  • 4+ years of experience in software engineering with a focus on cloud-native development
  • Strong proficiency with TypeScript, Golang, and/or Python
  • Solid experience with AWS services including Lambda, IoT Core, DynamoDB, CloudWatch, and SNS/SQS
  • Experience with infrastructure as code tools, AWS CDK preferred
  • Understanding of full-stack system architecture and cloud-to-mobile integration patterns
  • Experience working with cross-functional development teams
  • Knowledge of IoT protocols and device connectivity, including MQTT, HTTP/REST, and WebSockets
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to debug complex distributed systems
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills
  • A passion for creating consumer-friendly, connected product experiences
  • Curiosity, adaptability, and a drive to be part of a high-performing engineering team

Technical skills required: TypeScript, Python, and Go; AWS services including Lambda, DynamoDB, CloudWatch, and SNS/SQS; infrastructure as code via AWS CDK; IoT protocols including MQTT, HTTP/REST, and WebSockets; Docker for containerization; Git for version control; and AWS CodePipeline or similar for CI/CD.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with AWS IoT Core, Kinesis data streaming, message queues (SNS/SQS), serverless architectures, and containerization (Docker)
  • Prior work with connected devices, IoT ecosystems, or large-scale device management platforms
  • Knowledge of BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) and WiFi connectivity protocols
  • Experience with Rust, C/C++, or other systems programming languages
  • Comfort with AI-assisted development workflows and modern developer tooling
  • Experience with AWS Bedrock, AI-powered development tools, or prompt engineering for software development tasks
  • Background in robotics, consumer electronics, or smart home products
  • Contributions to open-source projects
  • Experience mentoring other engineers

Nice-to-have technical skills: Rust and C/C++; AWS services including Kinesis, Step Functions, API Gateway, S3, and Athena; BLE and WiFi connectivity; distributed tracing alongside CloudWatch; and AI tools such as AWS Bedrock and GitHub Copilot.
