Senior Civil Engineer – Aviation & Federal (Oak Ridge)

Burns & McDonnell is hiring a Senior Civil Engineer specializing in Aviation & Federal projects for our Oak Ridge office in Anderson County. This full-time position offers the chance to lead complex, high-impact infrastructure initiatives while building your career with a recognized industry leader.

About the Role

You'll take ownership of aviation and federal engineering projects from conception through completion. In this senior role, you'll direct technical strategy, mentor engineering teams, and partner with federal agencies and clients to deliver critical infrastructure that meets the highest standards of quality, safety, and regulatory compliance. Your leadership will drive projects that strengthen our communities and advance public infrastructure.

What You'll Do

• Lead design, planning, and execution of aviation and federal infrastructure projects
• Develop comprehensive engineering plans, technical specifications, and cost analyses
• Manage project scope, schedules, budgets, and resource coordination
• Engage with federal agencies, clients, and construction partners to align on project objectives and requirements
• Ensure all work complies with federal regulations, industry codes, and safety standards
• Mentor junior engineers and foster a culture of technical excellence and professional growth
• Conduct site assessments, inspections, and quality reviews throughout project execution

What We're Looking For

• Professional Engineer (PE) license in Civil Engineering
• Minimum 7 years of civil engineering experience, preferably with aviation or federal project background
• Deep understanding of federal project delivery, regulatory requirements, and compliance frameworks
• Demonstrated leadership and project management experience
• Proficiency with civil engineering software and project management platforms
• Excellent communication and stakeholder relationship management abilities
• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or closely related discipline
• Willingness to travel as project needs require
