Senior Application Security Engineer

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential open-source technology company that is building the next generation of developer tools. Our client is seeking a Senior Application Security Engineer to join their globally distributed team and play a critical role in securing their development pipeline, product, and customer execution environments.

This is a fully remote position open to candidates anywhere in the world. You'll work closely with engineering teams to embed security deeply into the platform across multiple cloud environments, while helping shape responsible AI usage in both product and engineering workflows.

Responsibilities

• Partner with product and engineering teams to integrate security principles into product design and architecture from the ground up
• Conduct comprehensive threat modeling and risk assessments to identify vulnerabilities and potential attack vectors across the full product surface
• Manage the Secure Development pipeline, including code security reviews and third-party library supply chain security
• Stay current on emerging security standards and guidance (such as OWASP Top 10 for LLMs and MCP security specifications) and translate these into actionable internal policies
• Triage bug bounty findings and responsibly disclosed vulnerabilities
• Participate in on-call rotation to ensure security incident response coverage

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or related field (or equivalent experience)
• 5+ years of experience in application security, product security, or a related role
• Proven track record of partnering with engineering teams and bringing security expertise to planning and development processes
• Deep knowledge of encryption, authentication, and secure communication protocols
• Hands-on familiarity with security tools including SAST, DAST, and penetration testing frameworks
• Strong understanding of application architecture and design principles with the ability to identify vulnerabilities across multiple programming languages
• Experience with Kubernetes security posture management and auditing, including workload hardening, RBAC design, and admission control
• Demonstrated experience with multi-tenant security architecture, including data plane isolation, control plane hardening, and cross-tenant data leakage prevention
• Expertise in at least one programming language; familiarity with Python and Go is highly valued
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex security concepts to non-technical stakeholders

• Experience with distributed computing systems and related security vulnerabilities
• Background running Security Champions programs
• Open-source contributions or automation projects
• Expertise in additional security domains
• Security conference presentations or published research

Pay

The estimated compensation range for this role is $180,000 - $225,000 annually, depending on qualifications and geographic location. This position is also eligible to participate in the company's equity plan.
