About This Opportunity
We are representing a confidential mobile gaming technology company based in Hamburg that is building high-performing consumer products at global scale. Our client operates a rewarded user engagement and acquisition platform serving publishers worldwide, and they need a data engineer who treats AI as a core engineering tool, not an occasional convenience.
This is a senior technical role where you'll own the data foundation powering their entire business. You'll be building and scaling data systems that directly drive performance, working at the intersection of data engineering, AI tooling, and product delivery. The team believes a small group of engineers working closely with AI can outperform traditional larger teams, and this role is built around that principle.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable ETL pipelines on Databricks, integrating data from multiple sources including applications, web products, and marketing partner systems
- Build and manage the Data Lakehouse architecture on Databricks, including migrating legacy data products and implementing transformations using PySpark
- Monitor and maintain data stacks for nightly and near-real-time processing, continuously optimizing pipelines for quality and performance
- Use AI tools like Claude daily as a core part of your workflow for planning, building, debugging, and documentation
- Integrate AI directly into version control workflows using Git worktrees to run parallel AI-assisted development branches
- Maintain structured project context for AI tools (such as instruction files) to keep them accurate as codebases grow
- Run multiple AI coding agents on separate tasks simultaneously, reviewing and integrating their output
- Collaborate closely with engineering and ML teams to ensure seamless data integration
- Stay current with industry practices in data engineering and applied AI, bringing new approaches to the organization
What We're Looking For
- Minimum 4 years of professional data engineering experience, with a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent bootcamp background
- Current, deep hands-on experience with Databricks (at least one year of recent, substantive work designing and optimizing ETL processes on the platform)
- Strong proficiency with AWS services including S3, Kinesis, and Lambda or similar cloud technologies
- Genuine daily fluency with AI coding tools like Claude across planning, building, debugging, and documentation—this is a core requirement, not optional
- Demonstrated ability to set up and maintain project context and memory for AI tools using structured instructions and reusable prompts
- Comfort running parallel tickets with AI assistance using Git worktrees or similar approaches, with ability to explain your detailed workflow
- High proficiency in Python, SQL, and PySpark for data manipulation and processing
- Ability to write clean, maintainable, production-ready code
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Fluent English communication, both written and verbal
- Openness to AI-driven workflows that reshape how data teams operate, not just tolerance of new tools
- Experience with GitLab CI/CD pipelines and PostgreSQL is a plus
