About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential mobile gaming technology company in Hamburg that is scaling a high-performing user engagement platform. This is a unique generalist data role where you'll operate across data engineering, machine learning, data science, and analytics—moving to wherever the highest-value problem is rather than staying in one lane.

As a Senior AI Data Expert, you'll build and scale the data foundation that powers the entire business, working at the intersection of multiple data disciplines. This isn't about maintaining pipelines or following predefined processes—our client expects entrepreneurial ownership where you build it, own it, and see the impact in production.

AI tooling is core to how this team operates. You'll use Claude and similar AI tools daily to plan, build, debug, and document, including managing context across projects, integrating AI into version control workflows, and running parallel agent workflows. The philosophy here is that a small team working closely with AI can outperform a much larger traditional data team.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable ETL pipelines to integrate data from app, web, and partner sources, ensuring reliable data flow
• Build and manage the Data Lakehouse infrastructure, including migrating legacy data products and implementing transformations using PySpark
• Monitor and maintain the data stack for nightly and near-real-time processing, continuously optimizing pipelines for quality and integrity
• Turn open business questions into decision-ready analysis when that represents the highest-value work
• Use AI tools daily—not occasionally—to plan, build, debug, and document pipelines, treating AI as core infrastructure rather than an add-on
• Integrate AI directly into version control workflows, using Git worktrees or equivalent to run several AI-assisted branches side by side
• Maintain structured project context for AI tools (such as instruction files) so they stay accurate as codebases grow
• Run multiple AI coding agents on separate tasks simultaneously, reviewing and integrating output rather than writing every line serially
• Move fluidly across data engineering, ML, data science, and analytics disciplines depending on team needs
• Stay current with industry best practices in data engineering and applied AI

What We're Looking For

• Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Data Science, or related field, or bootcamp experience
• Minimum 4 years professional experience across data engineering, machine learning, data science, or analytics
• Real experience in at least two of those disciplines, with comfort picking up others as needed
• Current, deep hands-on experience with Databricks (at least one year), proficient in designing and optimizing ETL processes
• Experience with AWS services such as S3, Kinesis, and Lambda or similar cloud technologies
• Highly proficient in Python, SQL, and PySpark for data manipulation and processing
• Genuine daily AI fluency—you use tools like Claude hands-on across planning, building, debugging, and documentation, not just occasionally
• Experience setting up and maintaining project context and memory for AI coding tools through structured instructions and reusable prompts
• Comfortable running several tickets in parallel with AI assistance using Git worktrees or similar approaches, with ability to explain your workflow in detail
• Excellent problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively
• Fluent in English, both verbally and in writing
• Genuinely open to a way of working where AI reshapes team operations, not just tolerant of it
• Experience with GitLab CI/CD pipelines and PostgreSQL is a plus
