Scientific Account Executive

About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential biotechnology client in London who is revolutionizing how biological experiments are conducted through automation and AI integration. This is a hybrid Scientific Account Executive role combining technical sales with customer success responsibilities. You'll work directly with research teams at leading organizations, supporting their protein engineering programs from initial consultation through ongoing experimentation.

This position requires genuine scientific depth—you'll be discussing binding kinetics, expression systems, and assay design with PhD-level researchers while managing the commercial relationship. The role is ideal for someone who understands the science deeply enough to earn trust from technical stakeholders while being commercially driven to close deals and expand accounts.

Responsibilities

• Own the complete customer lifecycle from prospecting and technical sales conversations through deal closing, onboarding, and ongoing account management
• Serve as the primary technical contact for customers, understanding their protein engineering objectives and recommending appropriate experimental approaches
• Explain platform capabilities including BLI, SPR, cell-free expression systems, and emerging assay types—knowing when each method is appropriate and how to interpret resulting data
• Collaborate with internal biology teams to ensure experiments are designed correctly and results are communicated effectively to customers
• Build and maintain a commercial pipeline across diverse customer segments including AI-driven protein design companies, biotech startups, pharmaceutical R&D teams, and academic laboratories
• Develop tailored proposals and quotes ranging from small pilot experiments to large-scale data generation campaigns
• Represent the organization at conferences and industry events, engaging in substantive technical discussions with potential customers
• Provide customer insights to product and biology teams regarding requested assays, platform gaps, and competitive intelligence

What We're Looking For

• Scientific background in protein engineering, biochemistry, biophysics, or closely related field with comfort discussing binding kinetics (KD, kon, koff), expression systems, and assay design without reference materials
• Experience in customer-facing technical roles such as field application scientist, technical sales, or scientific account management—CRO or biotech vendor experience strongly preferred
• Commercial mindset with focus on revenue generation, pipeline management, and deal closure beyond purely scientific conversations
• Excellent communication skills with ability to adapt messaging for different audiences—detailed and technical with scientists, concise and business-focused with executives
• Self-directed professional capable of managing pipeline and priorities with minimal oversight
• Genuine interest in AI-driven protein design and awareness of current developments in this rapidly evolving field
