Robot Perception/ML Engineer (w/m/d) Autonomous Mobile Robots

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential robotics organization seeking a talented Robot Perception/ML Engineer to join their autonomous mobile robotics team in Munich. Our client is pioneering advanced navigation and manipulation capabilities in industrial automation.

Responsibilities

• Develop and enhance perception models for autonomous mobile robots, including object detection, obstacle classification, and free-space recognition
• Drive data-driven machine learning solutions by scaling automated labeling processes, leveraging fleet data, and bridging the sim-to-real gap through synthetic data and simulation-based evaluation
• Own model performance by defining meaningful benchmarks, tracking relevant metrics, and achieving continuous improvements in real-world deployment and benchmark-level results
• Integrate and validate perception models within a ROS-based software stack, ensuring reliable performance on physical vehicles
• Collaborate closely with navigation, control, and fleet management teams to develop robust perception solutions for autonomous operations

What We're Looking For

• 2–5 years of professional experience with hands-on work in robotics perception, computer vision, or machine learning
• Strong Python programming skills; C++ experience is a plus
• Practical experience training and evaluating neural networks (e.g., PyTorch) with a data-centric approach to improving model performance
• Experience with synthetic data, ML simulations, auto-labeling, active learning, or domain adaptation
• Structured, data-driven methodology for model evaluation with understanding of how to reliably measure real-world performance
• Familiarity with ROS and Linux-based development environments
• Pragmatic mindset: you implement, measure results, and iteratively improve solutions
• Fluency in German and English is required for this position
