About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential AI organization at the forefront of voice technology development. Our client is pioneering revolutionary approaches to speech processing and real-time voice interaction systems that serve hundreds of thousands of developers worldwide.

This Research Staff position focuses on developing next-generation voice AI systems through novel latent space modeling approaches. You'll tackle fundamental challenges in audio data scarcity, computational efficiency, and universal voice interaction—problems that current paradigms cannot solve through simple scaling.

Responsibilities

As a member of the research team, you will:

• Build next-generation neural audio codecs achieving extreme compression and high-fidelity reconstruction across diverse general audio datasets
• Pioneer steerable generative models that synthesize the full spectrum of human speech, from conversational to highly emotional expression in complex multi-speaker scenarios
• Develop embedding systems that factorize latent spaces into interpretable dimensions of speaker, content, style, environment, and channel effects
• Leverage latent recombination techniques to generate synthetic audio data at unprecedented scales, enabling new joint model and data scaling paradigms
• Design multimodal speech-to-speech systems capable of understanding diverse human communication and producing empathic, human-like responses
• Create model architectures, training schemes, and inference algorithms optimized for hardware efficiency, enabling cost-effective training on billion-hour datasets and real-time inference for massive concurrent conversations
• Conduct controlled experiments that validate or invalidate research hypotheses rapidly, then scale successful proofs-of-concept by orders of magnitude

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications:

• Strong mathematical foundation in statistical learning theory, particularly in self-supervised and multimodal learning
• Deep expertise in foundation model architectures with understanding of multi-modal training at scale
• Proven ability to bridge theory and practice—deriving novel mathematical formulations and implementing them efficiently
• Demonstrated experience building data pipelines that process and curate massive datasets while maintaining quality and diversity
• Track record of designing controlled experiments that isolate architectural innovations and validate theoretical insights
• Experience optimizing models for real-world deployment, including knowledge of hardware constraints and efficiency techniques
• History of open-source contributions or research publications advancing the state of the art in speech or language AI
