Public Works/Wastewater – Pump Station Mechanic

Position Summary

The Pump Station Mechanic operates, maintains, and repairs wastewater pumping stations to ensure continuous, reliable system performance. Working under general supervision, you will apply established procedures and exercise independent judgment to diagnose problems, implement solutions, and optimize equipment function. Your work helps prevent service interruptions and maintains the integrity of Hampton's wastewater infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor pumping station equipment, including centrifugal and positive displacement pumps, motors, and controls
• Perform preventative maintenance on mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems to prevent equipment failure
• Diagnose equipment malfunctions and conduct repairs or coordinate replacement of faulty components
• Inspect station facilities, piping, and ancillary equipment to identify wear, corrosion, or operational issues
• Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, repairs, and equipment performance
• Respond to emergency service calls and troubleshoot problems affecting system operations
• Follow safety protocols and regulatory requirements in all work activities
