Salsify is hiring a Senior Payroll Specialist for a full-time, remote position in the United States. You'll lead US payroll operations and build global payroll capabilities for a market-leading commerce platform trusted by the world's largest brands.
The Opportunity
Salsify seeks an experienced payroll professional to own US payroll operations and establish best practices for our expanding global function. This role offers end-to-end ownership and the opportunity to scale internationally as the company grows. You'll partner with People Operations, Finance, Total Rewards, and Systems teams to ensure compliant, accurate payroll delivery.
What You'll Do
- Execute multi-state payroll processing across multiple legal entities and payroll platforms, ensuring accuracy and compliance every cycle
- Manage federal, state, and local tax compliance, including withholding, registrations, quarterly and annual filings (Form 941, 940), W-2 and W-2c processing, and agency correspondence
- Administer regulated payroll components: 401(k) contributions, health insurance deductions, equity compensation, imputed income, and taxable benefits
- Maintain payroll controls through regular audits, reconciliations, and Workday Payroll validation
- Investigate payroll issues and implement sustainable, scalable solutions
- Support global payroll evolution, including Deel implementation and multi-country process standardization
- Develop documentation, procedures, and playbooks that reduce manual effort and improve compliance
- Identify and lead automation initiatives that enhance efficiency and employee experience
- Contribute to People Operations initiatives, including Workday employee data management and employee lifecycle processes
Requirements
- Proven experience owning US payroll operations for multi-state, multi-entity organizations
- Deep knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll tax compliance and regulations
- Proficiency with payroll platforms and HRIS systems, particularly Workday
- Strong understanding of regulated payroll elements including retirement contributions, benefit deductions, equity compensation, and imputed income
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex payroll processes while maintaining accuracy and timeliness
- Experience developing payroll procedures and scalable operational processes
- Comfort with continuous improvement and identifying automation opportunities
- Strong cross-functional collaboration and communication skills
