Product Engineer (m/f/d)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential e-commerce organization seeking a Product Engineer to join their technical team in Hamburg. This role combines deep technical expertise with strong product thinking to build AI-powered tools and features that create measurable business value. You'll own features end-to-end—from scoping and design through development, deployment, and user adoption—working at the intersection of engineering excellence and real-world business impact.

This position is ideal for builders who care about outcomes, not just code. You'll work with stakeholders across the organization to identify what should be built, then make it happen using modern technologies and AI to accelerate delivery.

Responsibilities

• Own complete product delivery cycles from concept through production deployment, shipping solutions that drive measurable business outcomes rather than just writing code
• Design and integrate AI-powered features into the platform—building AI solutions that solve real user problems, speed up workflows, and unlock new capabilities
• Build scalable data models and architectures that serve as reliable foundations, creating reusable components and patterns that accelerate future development
• Collaborate with stakeholders at all organizational levels to align on priorities, communicate technical concepts clearly, and drive adoption of new tools and features
• Translate user needs and business processes into shipped experiences, combining product thinking with technical execution
• Gather feedback early, iterate quickly, and continuously improve solutions based on real usage and business impact
• Stay current with emerging technologies and engineering best practices to keep systems competitive and ahead of business needs

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
• 5–8 years of professional software development experience with a strong product mindset
• Strong proficiency with TypeScript and modern React (React 19, Vite preferred)
• Backend experience with Node.js, Express or comparable frameworks, REST APIs, and PostgreSQL with practical SQL skills
• Hands-on experience building AI into products: structured extraction, automation, RAG, or agentic workflows—not just using AI coding assistants
• Familiarity with modern AI/ML frameworks and agentic AI systems
• Solid data modeling skills and experience building scalable system architectures
• Strong engineering quality mindset with experience building reliable, maintainable products validated through appropriate testing
• Strong product sense—understanding business processes and user perspectives beyond just technical implementation
• Excellent communication skills and experience driving solution adoption across organizations
• Proactive, autonomous approach with strong initiative in dynamic environments
• Fluent English required; German is a plus

Nice to have:

• Experience with LLM tooling including provider APIs (Anthropic, OpenAI, Gemini), agent and tool-use patterns, and evaluating output quality
• Familiarity with vector search technologies (pgvector or similar)
• Hands-on experience with product analytics and observability tools (PostHog, Sentry)
• Experience integrating ERPs or operational systems (orders, inventory, master data)
• Background in e-commerce, wholesale, or B2B platform environments
• Python for data tooling; Docker, GitHub Actions, AWS
