Principal Software Engineer (m/f/d)

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential renewable energy technology organization seeking a Principal Software Engineer in Berlin. In this role, you will:

• Shape technical strategy and innovation efforts across the engineering organization
• Drive consistent execution of technical decisions by setting clear direction and holding teams accountable for implementation
• Ensure software architecture aligns closely with product management to support current and future product direction
• Lead architectural direction to enable delivery of scalable, maintainable, and state-of-the-art solutions
• Translate business requirements into technical solutions and resolve deep technical challenges with urgency and precision
• Mentor and challenge engineers to accelerate their professional growth
• Build and scale a high-performance engineering culture within the tech organization
• Embed security and reliability as core customer value
• Architect systems and APIs to support AI agent operations with machine-readable contracts and structured error handling
• Drive organizational transformation toward agentic engineering practices, reshaping team workflows while maintaining human accountability

The technology stack includes AI-assisted development tools, Google Cloud Platform, Kubernetes, messaging and IoT platforms, PostgreSQL, BigQuery, Datadog, and languages including TypeScript, Java, Go, Flutter, and Ruby on Rails.

What We're Looking For

• Minimum 5 years of extensive hands-on software development experience across multiple general-purpose programming languages
• Proven track record architecting scalable and secure systems with a strong commitment to quality
• Extensive experience designing and implementing APIs that enable seamless integration and system communication
• Agile, result-oriented mindset with strong emphasis on collaboration and teamwork
• Experience communicating with stakeholders in business terms and understanding technical implications of requirements
• Industry-leading experience driving cross-functional teams and enforcing engineering alignment in fast-paced environments, including making and following through on critical technical decisions
• Experience designing systems and APIs for agent consumption, with structured errors and clear contracts enabling agent self-correction
• Capability to guide engineering teams through the shift to agentic engineering, reshaping workflows so agents execute safely while humans maintain accountability
• Strong verbal and written communication skills in English; German proficiency is a plus
