Role Overview
This Principal Software Engineer position offers an exceptional opportunity to influence product direction, mentor senior engineers, and own critical technical decisions across our entire platform. You'll operate at the intersection of engineering leadership and hands-on architecture, serving as a technical authority within Ascensus and driving the technical strategy that enables our mission to help people build better financial futures.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Design and architect scalable, resilient systems that support millions of users and financial transactions
- Collaborate with product, design, and cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into robust technical solutions
- Lead code reviews, establish engineering best practices, and mentor senior engineers across the organization
- Identify technical debt, propose modernization initiatives, and champion strategic platform improvements
- Contribute hands-on to core platform development while balancing architectural leadership and mentorship responsibilities
- Participate in technical hiring, team building, and developing the next generation of engineering talent
Requirements
- 10+ years of software engineering experience, with 5+ years in senior or principal-level roles
- Proven expertise designing and shipping large-scale distributed systems at production scale
- Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and shape technical strategy across organizations
- Deep foundation in computer science fundamentals and software architecture principles
- Experience with modern development practices, testing strategies, and deployment automation
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to diverse audiences
