Day-to-Day Responsibilities

• Perform venipuncture, capillary collections, and related techniques on pediatric outpatients while prioritizing patient comfort and established safety steps
• Confirm identification, prepare materials, and complete each draw according to departmental procedures during night or weekend shifts
• Label, log, and route specimens promptly so laboratory analysis can proceed without delay
• Keep collection stations stocked, clean, and ready for successive patients throughout the shift
• Explain steps clearly to children and guardians, answer basic questions, and coordinate with nursing or provider staff as needed
• Document all activities thoroughly and follow infection-control, privacy, and quality protocols at every step

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent educational credential
• Completion of a formal phlebotomy training program
• Phlebotomy certification strongly preferred for this outpatient role
• Comfort working with infants, children, and adolescents plus the ability to adapt techniques for their cooperation
• Strong interpersonal skills that put families at ease and support clear hand-offs with clinical teams
• Consistent accuracy in plasma and serum handling, labeling, and record-keeping under typical clinic volume
