CardFlight
CardFlight is hiring a full-time Payments Product Manager to lead payments strategy for our remote, location-neutral team. You'll serve as our central authority on payment networks, processor integrations, compliance standards, and payment methods—bridging our payments and engineering teams while representing us to external partners.
Position Summary
You'll own the strategic direction and roadmap for CardFlight's payments infrastructure. This is fundamentally a product management role: you develop strategy, set priorities, and define requirements. Payment certification realities also demand hands-on coordination, but product thinking and strategic vision define your work. You combine deep payments expertise with a customer-centric mindset, excel navigating technical complexity, operate with high self-sufficiency, and understand that in payments, attention to detail is as essential as strategic thinking.
Core Duties
- Lead payments strategy and certification ownership: provide technical authority on transaction processing, processor integrations, and payment innovations; advocate for emerging payment methods and authentication standards when they serve merchant needs; manage certification roadmaps and execution; serve as primary liaison with processors and card brands on compliance, standards evolution, and production issues.
- Interpret and translate specifications: independently read raw processor and card brand documentation; convert complex technical requirements into clear, engineering-ready specifications and product requirements documents; assess how new features impact processor integrations and compliance requirements; flag these dependencies early in development; proactively identify compliance gaps before they affect production.
- Execute processor integrations and certifications: coordinate end-to-end certification processes from intake through testing and delivery; negotiate scope with processor teams; orchestrate multiple concurrent certification projects while maintaining meticulous attention to detail.
- Build and communicate the roadmap: balance active certifications, integrations, compliance mandates, and product initiatives; articulate roadmap reasoning to engineering and operations; coordinate cross-functional launch readiness before shipping.
- Collaborate across teams: embed daily with payments and engineering teams, participate in standups and refinements, partner with operations on merchant support readiness, and represent CardFlight professionally in complex technical negotiations with external partners.
Requirements
- Minimum three years of product management experience in payments; five to ten-plus years preferred. You need hands-on knowledge of processor integrations, certification processes, and shipping in-house software.
- Deep expertise managing Level 3 card-present certifications and established processor and card brand relationships.
- Knowledge of PCI DSS, EMVCo kernel standards, emerging payment methods, and authentication innovations.
- Ability to independently parse processor specifications and card brand rules, translating them directly into engineering requirements without needing external translation.
- Proven skill building and maintaining processor relationships, with communication ability to represent a growing organization in high-stakes technical partnerships.
- Strong written and verbal communication with the organizational discipline to manage multiple external deadlines and partners simultaneously.
- Proficiency with product analytics and confidence in data-driven decision-making.
- Collaborative nature; ability to unify engineering, operations, and external partners to advance complex technical initiatives.
