Microservices Engineer

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential open-source technology organization that is seeking Microservices Engineers at all levels of seniority. Our client operates globally with a fully distributed team structure, and this role is open to candidates anywhere in the world.

This position focuses on building and maintaining back-end REST API microservices using Go and Python. You'll work on services that must scale to handle millions of clients while maintaining high reliability and performance standards. The systems you'll contribute to are critical infrastructure components used worldwide.

Responsibilities

• Write high-quality, well-designed, and robust software that operates at scale
• Design APIs and software architecture for peer review and collaborative refinement
• Develop comprehensive tests that validate software behavior and reliability
• Build and maintain fault-tolerant applications and services
• Debug complex issues and produce high-quality solutions
• Collaborate proactively with a globally distributed engineering team
• Contribute to technical documentation and knowledge sharing
• Demonstrate technical leadership both internally and within external communities
• Participate in cross-team collaboration and architectural discussions

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM field, or equivalent professional experience
• Strong proficiency in Python and/or Go
• Demonstrated history of writing modern, maintainable software
• Experience with both relational and non-relational database systems
• Hands-on experience with continuous integration and continuous delivery
• Background in systems programming or scalable web services
• Experience working with Linux environments (Debian or Ubuntu preferred)
• Professional written and spoken English
• Excellent interpersonal skills with curiosity, flexibility, and accountability
• Result-oriented approach with personal drive to meet commitments
• Strong communication and presentation abilities
• Ability to travel twice annually for company events (up to two weeks each)

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience with container technologies such as LXD, Docker, and Kubernetes
• Understanding of build systems and toolchains
• Cross-compilation experience
• Experience with hyperscale public clouds and/or private cloud infrastructure
• Background in designing, building, and running distributed systems
• Performance engineering and security expertise
• Familiarity with API design, documentation, and governance
• Knowledge of multi-region service delivery for resilience
• Experience with fuzzing and proactive security analysis
• Tracing and profiling capabilities for distributed systems

Pay
