About the Role
The Meteorologist position at Nexstar Media's Weather Center serves as a forecasting backbone for broadcast stations across our network. Operating from our Dallas, Texas headquarters, you'll provide comprehensive meteorological analysis, forecast products, and weather content review to markets seeking professional support. You'll collaborate closely with on-air meteorologists and production teams to ensure all weather programming meets Nexstar's exacting editorial and accuracy standards while serving the public interest.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver detailed weather forecasts and severe weather analysis to assigned broadcast markets
- Create forecast briefings, graphics packages, and discussion materials for station meteorologists and on-air talent
- Monitor atmospheric conditions continuously, issuing alerts and guidance when severe weather threatens covered markets
- Work alongside fellow meteorologists at the Dallas Weather Center to maintain consistent forecast quality and timeliness
- Review weather content, scripts, and graphics to ensure compliance with journalistic standards and factual accuracy
- Analyze National Weather Service products, multiple weather models, and radar data to support accurate forecasting
- Provide weather guidance and technical consultation to broadcast partners implementing forecast strategies
Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in meteorology, atmospheric science, or equivalent field of study
- Demonstrated broadcast or operational meteorology experience
- Expert understanding of weather forecasting models, severe weather analysis, and meteorological tools
- Strong communication abilities for both technical and general audiences
- Experience with weather graphics software and broadcast meteorology platforms
- Detail-oriented approach to ensuring accuracy and quality in all weather content
- Ability to thrive in a collaborative, deadline-focused environment
