About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential management consulting organization based in Cologne that specializes in leadership development, organizational transformation, and talent assessment. Our client is entering an exciting growth phase and seeking a strategic Managing Director to lead their institute through expansion, digital transformation, and enhanced service delivery.

This is not simply a management role—you will actively shape the future of the business, connecting leadership excellence with product innovation and business development. You'll report directly to the CEO and serve as a key member of the German management team.

Responsibilities

• Assume full strategic, operational, and financial responsibility for the institute's performance and future direction
• Lead, develop, and mentor a team of consultants, trainers, and coaches, fostering a culture of trust, autonomy, and constructive collaboration
• Strengthen existing client relationships while acquiring new clients and identifying additional growth opportunities
• Strategically develop the service portfolio, setting direction for new business areas and future-ready business models
• Contribute your expertise to selected projects and strategically important client engagements
• Strengthen market positioning and serve as a critical liaison between the institute and broader organizational teams
• Drive expansion of digital and hybrid service offerings alongside traditional consulting work

What We're Looking For

• Extensive leadership and management experience with proven responsibility for teams, divisions, business units, or comparable organizational entities
• Entrepreneurial mindset with strong understanding of business economics, market dynamics, and client needs
• Background in management or organizational consulting, ideally in leadership development, transformation, change management, talent assessment, or organizational development
• Experience leading or operationally managing comparable consulting projects
• Ability to combine strategic vision with pragmatic execution, translating ideas into sustainable results
• Proven track record in expanding client relationships, opening new business opportunities, and developing products and service areas
• Excellent communication and storytelling abilities with polished presence across diverse audiences and stakeholders
• Experience with or strong understanding of digital business models, hybrid service delivery, and scalable consulting offerings
• Comfort operating in dynamic, high-growth environments with strong self-motivation and organizational capability
• Willingness to conduct meetings and projects both remotely and on-site; travel readiness required
• Completed university degree (Diplom or Master) in Business Administration, Economics, Psychology, or comparable field
• Leadership presence characterized by providing orientation, building trust, delivering clarity, and making decisions
