Legal Counsel – Regulatory Compliance, Product and Privacy

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential open-source software organization seeking a Legal Counsel focused on Regulatory Compliance, Product, and Privacy. This is a home-based role available across EMEA, LATAM, Canada, the UK, and the USA. Our client is a globally distributed technology company working at the forefront of enterprise software, cloud infrastructure, and emerging technologies.

This position offers the opportunity to work on sophisticated compliance and privacy matters in a fast-paced, international environment. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams across multiple jurisdictions, tackle cutting-edge legal questions at the intersection of technology and regulation, and help shape privacy programs that operate at global scale.

Responsibilities

• Draft and review corporate policies, spearhead process improvements, and deploy controls to meet global regulatory compliance requirements
• Develop, maintain, and scale privacy programs including conducting Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) and Records of Processing Activities (ROPAs)
• Support operational initiatives and evaluate the impact of privacy, data protection laws, and emerging AI regulations
• Provide legal support to internal stakeholders across the organization, including product development teams
• Coordinate with local counsel across multiple jurisdictions to seek and implement advice
• Advise on compliance matters related to technology products and enterprise software

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• Exceptional academic track record from both secondary and university education
• Law degree (JD or equivalent) and active license to practice law, or current progress toward licensure
• Professional written and spoken English with excellent drafting and presentation skills
• Demonstrated ability to provide sound commercial judgment and high-quality legal advice
• Track record of exceeding expectations and taking initiative
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to remain proactive and efficient
• Confidence to speak up, exchange feedback, and share ideas in a collaborative environment
• Cultural awareness and effectiveness in a multicultural, multinational setting
• Ability to travel twice annually for company events (up to two weeks each)

Preferred experience:

• Background in compliance, data privacy, or product development
• Leadership capability and the ability to influence stakeholders to adopt new practices
• Understanding of the open-source software community and its values
• Knowledge of the technology industry including enterprise software, cloud platforms, or connected devices
• Experience working on an in-house legal team or at a law firm
