Legal Analyst / Research Associate (m/f/d) – part-time, fixed-term

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential fintech organization in Berlin that is seeking a Legal Analyst / Research Associate for a part-time, fixed-term position. This role is ideal for law graduates pursuing a doctorate or preparing for the Zweite Juristische Prüfung who want practical in-house experience in a regulated investment environment alongside their academic work.

Our client operates in the capital markets and financial services sector, working with leading European financial institutions. You will collaborate closely with experienced lawyers and take on increasing responsibility over time in a fast-paced, international environment.

Responsibilities

• Support the Legal Team on domestic and international projects by reviewing and preparing first drafts of cooperation agreements with clients and partners
• Research legal questions raised by Product, Project Management, and Sales teams and prepare concise memos, with a focus on financial services regulation (e.g. WpIG, MiFID II, DORA)
• Conduct initial legal reviews and risk assessments of vendor agreements and summarise key points for senior lawyers
• Help develop and maintain standard contracts, templates, playbooks, and other essential legal documents
• Maintain and structure the contract inventory database to ensure completeness, compliance, and clear ownership
• Collaborate with the Legal Team to automate and improve internal processes, including using AI-based legal tech tools
• Monitor regulatory developments from relevant authorities and prepare briefings for the team

What We're Looking For

• Completed first German law degree (Erste Juristische Prüfung, LL.B., or LL.M.)
• Currently pursuing or planning a doctorate (Promotion) or serving as a Rechtsreferendar:in
• First practical experience through internships, Referendariat stations, or research assistant roles is a plus but not required
• Keen interest in financial services, capital markets, or regulatory law—ideally reflected in your studies or dissertation topic
• Enthusiasm for an agile and proactive working culture
• Fluency in business English and German (working language is English)
• Strong intercultural awareness and enthusiasm for working in a global environment
• Team-oriented spirit with a passion for cross-disciplinary collaboration
• Confident use of Google Workspace, MS Office, and AI tools, with curiosity about legal tech
