Lead or Sr. Energy Economist – Resource Adequacy (Remote Eligible)

Southwest Power Pool seeks an experienced Lead or Senior Energy Economist to direct resource adequacy analysis and strategy for the regional transmission organization. Based in Pinnacle, Pulaski County, Arkansas, this full-time position is available to remote-eligible candidates and offers the opportunity to drive critical infrastructure planning across a substantial customer base spanning multiple states.

About the Role

As a Lead or Senior Energy Economist focused on resource adequacy, you'll lead economic assessment and forecasting activities that inform grid reliability, market design, and regulatory strategy. This is a high-impact position where your analysis directly shapes decisions affecting system performance and stakeholder planning.

What You'll Do

• Conduct advanced economic modeling and scenario analysis on resource adequacy, reserve margins, and capacity requirements
• Develop and maintain forecasting methodologies that project generation needs, demand patterns, and market conditions
• Lead cross-functional teams to evaluate generation retirement impacts, new technology integration, and regulatory compliance
• Prepare economic analyses, technical reports, and policy recommendations for senior leadership and member utilities
• Collaborate with market operations, planning, and regulatory teams to translate economic findings into strategic direction
• Monitor industry trends, emerging technologies, and market developments to identify grid adequacy implications

What We're Looking For

• Advanced degree in Economics, Energy Systems, Engineering, or related quantitative discipline
• Demonstrated expertise in resource adequacy, capacity markets, or electric grid planning
• Strong analytical and modeling skills with proficiency in economic and statistical software
• Experience leading technical teams and communicating complex economic concepts to diverse stakeholders
• Knowledge of NERC standards, regional transmission organization operations, and wholesale power markets
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet regulatory and planning timelines
