Language Lead – Hindi (Contract)

About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential AI technology client in their search for a Language Lead - Hindi (Contract) to work remotely. This is a specialized linguistics role for a native Hindi speaker who will serve as the primary language authority for voice AI quality and annotation work.

This is not a standard annotation position. You will own the Hindi language stream end-to-end, managing annotation quality, auditing datasets, monitoring product performance, investigating customer-reported issues, and executing projects requiring deep linguistic expertise. You will operate independently and serve as the go-to resource for all Hindi-related questions.

Responsibilities

• Answer questions from annotators about guidelines, edge cases, and language-specific issues through agreed communication channels
• Cascade new feedback, instructions, and rubric updates to annotation teams
• Listen to annotator-rated audio files and verify ratings and written feedback align with project rubrics
• Prepare written quality assessments for annotators with specific examples and actionable recommendations
• Evaluate text-to-speech output for pronunciation, prosody, and naturalness in Hindi
• Update and expand annotation guidelines when gaps or edge cases are identified
• Prepare and facilitate calibration meetings with annotators
• Hold scheduled office hours during active studies for real-time annotator support
• Develop onboarding materials and resources for new team members
• Write quality assurance reports on annotation quality and calibration outcomes
• Review production audio and flag quality issues to the product team
• Investigate language-specific issues reported by customers and identify root causes
• Audit datasets for linguistic accuracy, completeness, and consistency

What We're Looking For

Required:

• Native-level proficiency in Hindi
• Experience with data annotation, transcription, or language quality assurance
• Strong foundation in linguistics or related field, with ability to apply concepts like phonetics, prosody, and intonation when evaluating speech
• Strong written English proficiency for guidelines, feedback, reports, and team communication
• Ability to write clear, structured instructions and deliver specific, actionable feedback
• Comfortable working with data and metrics such as inter-rater agreement scores and audit spreadsheets
• Self-directed with ability to manage feedback cycles, QA reviews, and data projects without close oversight
• Availability during some US Pacific business hours for team coordination and real-time support

Preferred:

• Experience writing or maintaining annotation guidelines or rubrics
• Experience training, mentoring, or managing other annotators
• Experience with audio evaluation, text-to-speech, or speech-to-text systems
• Conversational spoken English proficiency for meetings and calibration sessions
• Experience working with distributed, remote teams

Pay

This is a contract position billed hourly. Compensation details will be discussed during the screening process.
