Landfill Operations Manager

Join WM as a Landfill Operations Manager and lead high-volume waste processing operations in Capitol, Richmond. In this full-time position, you'll oversee daily landfill facility management, supervise a dedicated operations team, and ensure safe, efficient, compliant waste disposal serving our community.

About the Role

As Landfill Operations Manager with WM in Capitol, Richmond, you'll direct all aspects of a busy landfill facility handling approximately 2,500–2,800 tons of waste daily. You'll lead and mentor a team of 13 operations staff, fostering a safety-first culture while optimizing daily workflows and maintaining strict regulatory compliance. This role is central to WM's commitment to environmental responsibility and operational excellence in the Richmond area.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily operations of the landfill facility, monitoring waste processing volumes and ensuring equipment runs efficiently
• Lead, supervise, and develop a team of 11 Equipment Operators and Scale Operators, plus 1 Laborer
• Maintain rigorous safety protocols and conduct regular training to achieve zero-incident operations
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations and WM operational standards
• Coordinate preventive maintenance schedules for landfill equipment and infrastructure
• Monitor and report on operational metrics, tonnage processed, and performance against facility targets
• Manage daily scheduling, staffing levels, and resource allocation to meet processing demands
• Respond promptly to operational issues and implement corrective actions

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; associate degree in business, environmental science, or operations preferred
• Minimum 3–5 years of landfill, waste operations, or related industrial facility management experience
• Proven leadership and team supervision experience with 10+ direct reports
• Strong knowledge of environmental compliance and landfill regulations
• Excellent safety awareness and commitment to occupational health standards
• Proficiency with facility management software and basic computer skills
• Valid driver's license and ability to work flexible hours including potential on-call availability
