Engineering Manager – Experience Above the Box (all genders)

About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential audio technology company in Düsseldorf. We're seeking an Engineering Manager to lead a newly-formed cross-functional team responsible for end-to-end product experiences spanning embedded systems, mobile applications, and cloud infrastructure. This role offers the opportunity to shape both the technical direction and team culture for a consumer-facing digital audio platform serving millions of users globally.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a cross-functional engineering team including both internal staff and external partners, fostering inclusive collaboration across disciplines and building a culture of continuous learning
• Scale the team strategically by defining hiring profiles, onboarding external engineers, and ensuring knowledge retention within the organization
• Drive end-to-end ownership across the full stack—embedded, mobile, and cloud—eliminating handoffs and enabling true accountability
• Provide architectural oversight to maintain structural integrity across multiple device generations through clean abstractions and modular design
• Define application-level APIs and transform cross-team dependencies into clear, testable contracts rather than coordination overhead
• Partner closely with Product Management to balance feature development with technical debt, ensuring engineering work aligns with product vision
• Maintain technical credibility through hands-on code reviews, architectural challenges, and direct problem-solving on critical issues
• Manage delivery end-to-end using lean principles to ensure stable, reliable releases for customers
• Lead the team through organizational change with clear vision and collaborative improvement initiatives

What We're Looking For

• Leadership experience managing engineering teams including specialists outside your primary discipline, with proven ability to integrate external partners into unified teams
• Deep software engineering background with genuine full-stack breadth—depth in embedded, backend, or mobile development plus working knowledge across the entire stack to review and challenge technical decisions
• Architectural vision championing modular, loosely coupled systems with strong cohesion that enable features to ship across multiple hardware generations without rewrites
• Strategic product alignment serving as the bridge between engineering and product strategy, translating business goals into technical reality
• Platform experience with Linux environments, Git, GitLab, and CI/CD workflows; experience working with ODMs or hardware suppliers is a strong advantage
• Design simplicity solving complex problems with elegant solutions in both code architecture and organizational processes
• Agile and empathetic work style especially when exploring new solutions or navigating change
• Professional English communication (German is a plus) with comfort being in the Düsseldorf office regularly
• Enthusiasm for consumer technology products that create meaningful experiences
