PowerLines is seeking a Director of State Policy and Government Partnerships to lead our state-level advocacy and relationship strategy from our Washington, District of Columbia office. This is a remote, full-time position.
The Opportunity
As Director of State Policy and Government Partnerships, you will shape PowerLines' influence across state capitals and regional governance structures. In this leadership role, you'll build and maintain strategic relationships with state legislators, regulators, and policymakers while developing comprehensive advocacy strategies that advance our mission. You'll be the architect of our state-level engagement, driving initiatives that connect PowerLines' work directly to the priorities of elected officials and government agencies across the country.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute state policy strategies aligned with PowerLines' organizational priorities and legislative agendas
- Build and cultivate relationships with state legislators, regulatory agencies, and key government stakeholders
- Lead cross-functional teams in coordinating state advocacy campaigns and government engagement efforts
- Monitor state legislative and regulatory developments, analyze impacts, and recommend strategic responses
- Represent PowerLines in meetings, hearings, and forums with state officials and agency leaders
- Oversee grant research and government funding opportunities relevant to PowerLines' work
- Develop position papers, testimonies, and policy briefs for state-level audiences
- Track metrics and outcomes of government partnership initiatives and report progress to senior leadership
Who We're Looking For
- Demonstrated experience in state policy, government affairs, or legislative advocacy, ideally at a director level or equivalent
- Established relationships with state legislators, regulators, or government officials
- Deep knowledge of state legislative processes and regulatory environments
- Proven ability to build coalitions and manage complex stakeholder relationships
- Strong policy analysis and written communication skills
- Strategic thinking and the ability to navigate ambiguity in the political landscape
- Experience leading teams and managing cross-organizational projects
- Familiarity with the Washington, District of Columbia region government structure or national state networks strongly preferred
