Cleveland Independent School District seeks an experienced Director of HR Compliance to lead the district's human resources compliance strategy and operations. This is a full-time, on-site administrative position based in Cleveland.

About the Role

The Director of HR Compliance serves as the district's primary architect for employment law adherence, regulatory compliance, and best practices across all HR functions. You will establish and maintain compliance systems that protect the district while supporting effective human capital management across schools and central office departments.

What You'll Do

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive HR compliance policies and procedures aligned with federal, state, and local employment regulations
  • Oversee compliance training for administrators, managers, and staff on employment law, Title IX, workplace safety, and related requirements
  • Manage employee investigations, leave administration, and accommodations with full documentation and regulatory adherence
  • Partner with district legal counsel to address complex employment matters and reduce organizational risk
  • Audit HR processes, systems, and records to ensure they meet compliance standards and best practices
  • Guide district leadership on policy interpretation, regulatory updates, and emerging compliance trends
  • Monitor changes in labor law and proactively adjust district practices to remain compliant

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, business administration, law, or related field
  • Minimum 5 years of HR experience, with at least 3 years focused on compliance or legal affairs
  • Strong knowledge of federal employment law, including Title VII, FMLA, ADA, and Title IX
  • Experience in K-12 education or public sector HR is strongly preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to translate complex regulations for diverse audiences
  • Demonstrated project management and organizational ability
  • Proficiency with HRIS platforms and Office applications
  • HR certification (SHRM-CP, PHR, or similar) is preferred
