Director of Accounting & Controlling

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential global SaaS organization in their search for a Director of Accounting & Controlling. This is a fully remote role open to candidates anywhere in the world.

Our client is a high-growth technology company serving over 150,000 businesses globally. They are at a pivotal stage where their finance function is evolving to support greater scale, complexity, and international ambition. You'll join a small but high-impact team and partner directly with the VP of Accounting & Controlling as their strategic deputy, helping lead both day-to-day operations and the longer-term transformation of the accounting organization.

Responsibilities

• Lead the global accounting and controlling function, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant financial operations across multiple entities and jurisdictions
• Partner with the VP of Accounting & Controlling as a strategic deputy, helping define priorities and drive the finance roadmap
• Manage, coach, and develop a high-performing accounting team, fostering accountability and continuous improvement
• Own monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes with strong balance sheet integrity and high-quality financial reporting
• Strengthen internal controls and ensure compliance with IFRS and regulatory requirements across all operating jurisdictions
• Oversee revenue recognition policies and processes for subscription and usage-based business models
• Lead indirect tax strategy and compliance (VAT/GST, digital services taxes) in partnership with external advisors
• Oversee transfer pricing frameworks, intercompany accounting, and cross-border financial operations
• Partner with Legal, FP&A, People, and external advisors to support international expansion and regulatory compliance
• Lead external audits and statutory reporting processes
• Drive finance transformation initiatives including process redesign, automation, and ERP optimization
• Build internal accounting capabilities while reducing dependency on external advisors
• Provide leadership continuity and act on behalf of the VP when required

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• Significant experience leading accounting and controlling functions within high-growth technology or SaaS environments
• Proven experience managing and developing accounting teams in fast-paced, international businesses
• Strong technical accounting expertise with deep knowledge of IFRS
• Experience managing multi-entity, multi-jurisdiction accounting environments
• Strong understanding of revenue recognition for subscription and usage-based business models
• Experience overseeing indirect tax compliance across multiple jurisdictions
• Strong understanding of financial controls, risk management, and audit processes
• Experience partnering with executive stakeholders and influencing cross-functional decisions
• Pragmatic, hands-on leadership style with willingness to dive into details when needed
• Excellent communication skills and ability to build trusted relationships across the business
• Continuous improvement mindset with experience driving operational excellence and finance transformation

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience leading accounting in a global B2B SaaS company
• Experience with international expansion, entity setup, and cross-border compliance
• Strong knowledge of transfer pricing and international tax structures
• Big 4 background or equivalent public accounting experience
• Experience implementing or optimizing ERP systems (NetSuite preferred)
• Track record of leading finance transformation, automation, or systems implementation projects
• Experience preparing organizations for rapid international growth, acquisitions, or IPO readiness
