Director, Health Communications

ICF is hiring a full-time Director, Health Communications in Washington, D.C. — a senior leadership role for a strategist ready to shape public health messaging that informs, persuades, and creates measurable impact.

About the Role

As Director, Health Communications at ICF, you will lead the strategy and delivery of health communications programs from our Washington, D.C. base. This is an on-site position with ICF Next, the agency's experience and communications practice, where teams combine evidence, creativity, and mission focus to drive positive change for clients and the communities they serve. Please note that this opportunity is tied to a pending contract award; although the position is not open for an immediate start, we are interviewing candidates and extending offers now in preparation for the award.

Key Responsibilities

• Set the vision and direction for health communications campaigns and client engagements.
• Translate public health goals into clear, audience-centered messaging and content strategies.
• Lead and mentor multidisciplinary teams, guiding work from concept through execution and evaluation.
• Serve as a trusted advisor to clients, building relationships and shaping account growth.
• Champion creative, problem-solving approaches that deliver demonstrable results for stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Proven leadership experience in health communications, public health, or a closely related discipline.
• A strong record of developing and managing strategic communications programs and teams.
• Skill in distilling complex health information into compelling, accessible content for diverse audiences.
• Excellent client management, collaboration, and stakeholder engagement abilities.
• Willingness to work on-site in Washington, D.C.
