ICF is hiring a Field Archaeologist on an on-call basis to support archaeological investigations and cultural resource management projects in the Pico Heights area of Los Angeles County, with focus on Catalina Island. This full-time position is based in Southern California and offers the opportunity to contribute to meaningful environmental and planning initiatives.
About the Role
As a Field Archaeologist, you'll conduct on-site archaeological fieldwork in support of environmental assessments, cultural resource evaluations, and compliance activities. Your work will help clients and communities understand, protect, and responsibly develop archaeological and cultural resources.
What You'll Do
- Execute field surveys, excavations, and documentation at archaeological sites on Catalina Island and surrounding areas
- Prepare detailed field notes, photographic records, and site plans to professional and regulatory standards
- Collaborate with senior archaeologists, cultural resource managers, and project teams to meet client objectives
- Assist in artifact processing, cataloging, and preliminary analysis
- Ensure compliance with cultural resource and environmental regulations throughout fieldwork
- Communicate findings and observations clearly to team members and stakeholders
- Maintain safety protocols and professional standards in often challenging field conditions
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in archaeology, anthropology, or closely related field
- Hands-on field archaeology experience, including excavation and survey work
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate documentation
- Physical ability to work outdoors in varying weather and terrain, including island environments
- Collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams
- Ability to follow established protocols and adapt to on-call scheduling demands
