About the Role
As a Dedicated Building Substitute at Ocean Avenue Elementary, you'll serve as a reliable educational professional who's present in our school building throughout the school year. This full-time position gives students and staff continuity they can count on, and gives you the stability of regular, predictable work in a school community you'll come to know well.
What You'll Do
- Fill in for absent classroom teachers across grade levels and subject areas, delivering lessons and maintaining classroom management according to teacher plans
- Build relationships with students, staff, and families through consistent presence in the building
- Support student learning by reinforcing classroom instruction, monitoring student progress, and reporting observations to permanent teaching staff
- Assist with supervised study halls, lunch duty, recess supervision, and other school operations as needed
- Maintain a professional, positive approach to unexpected daily assignments and shifting priorities
- Communicate effectively with administrators and teachers about classroom activities and student needs
What We're Looking For
- High school diploma or equivalent required; some college coursework or teaching credential a plus
- Demonstrated ability to connect with and support elementary-age students
- Strong communication skills and comfort with parents, colleagues, and school leadership
- Flexibility and reliability — you'll be called on to step in quickly and handle various classroom situations
- Background check clearance required
