Data Science Manager, Financial Crime

We are representing a fast-growing fintech organization seeking a Data Science Manager, Financial Crime to join their team in Cardiff. As Data Science Manager, you will champion data strategy and lead a cross-functional team working alongside Product, Risk, and Engineering peers. You'll drive innovation in financial crime detection while building and developing a world-class team of data scientists and analysts.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow a team of data scientists and analysts focused on detecting and preventing financial crime activity
• Hire, develop, and retain talented data professionals while managing a team larger than 4 people
• Generate strategic insights that shape the organization's financial crime strategy and product direction
• Bring data leadership and rigour to product development in an agile environment, structuring complex projects from concept to delivery
• Collaborate closely with Product Managers, engineers, and Financial Crime control owners to drive product innovation
• Work with risk, product, and engineering managers to ensure appropriate data collection for relevant business insights
• Champion the use of data-driven decision making and bring ideas to life through rigorous analytical approaches
• Manage stakeholders across various levels of seniority and disciplines, including executive and C-level peers

What We're Looking For

• Essential: At least 4 years of experience as a Data Science Manager, with a minimum of 2 years managing a data team of 4+ people
• Strong strategic data leadership skills with a proven track record of driving data-driven decisions
• Significant experience working with executive or C-level peers and managing stakeholders across multiple disciplines
• Deep understanding of what it takes to manage and develop top-tier data talent
• Proficiency with a variety of Data Science tools including business intelligence, experimentation, causal inference, and machine learning
• Strong coding skills in Python and SQL, with the ability to select the right tool for each challenge
• Ability to work autonomously and impact the future of a fast-growing, evolving business
• Preferred: Experience in financial crime, fraud detection, or similar areas such as Trust & Safety, Integrity, or Security
