Responsibilities
We are representing a global commodities trading organization seeking analytical talent for their Power Trading & Renewables Analytics Internship Program. This is a six-month, full-time, on-site opportunity running from 15 February to 12 August 2027, based in Berlin.
As an intern, you will work directly with front office teams on data-driven projects that support commercial decision-making, optimization, and risk management across energy markets. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
- Working closely with a front office team on analytical projects within renewables, power, or balancing risk management
- Analyzing large market, trading, and asset-related datasets to identify insights supporting commercial decisions, portfolio management, and systematic trading strategies
- Developing, testing, and improving analytical tools, models, dashboards, and workflows using Python
- Supporting optimization under uncertainty, forecasting, predictive modeling, simulation, reporting, and risk management activities
- Conducting market research and presenting findings clearly to both technical and commercial stakeholders
- Contributing to daily desk activities, building practical understanding of how analytics supports trading and portfolio decisions
Example project areas may include working with trading datasets, supporting optimization work linked to renewable assets and battery storage systems, developing predictive models, or building automated analytical workflows.
What We're Looking For
Essential requirements:
- Strong academic background in a quantitative discipline such as Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Economics, Quantitative Economics, Finance, Energy Economics, or a related STEM field
- Strong Python skills with demonstrated ability to analyze, manipulate, and interpret complex datasets
- Strong grounding in statistics, econometrics, machine learning, predictive modeling, or optimization, with ability to apply quantitative methods to practical problems
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a structured, detail-oriented approach
- Evidence of applying data analysis, coding, or quantitative methods to practical problems through academic projects, internships, research, or personal projects
- Demonstrable interest in energy markets with ability to discuss relevant industry developments in power, renewables, risk management, or commodities trading
- Business-level English proficiency
- Right to work in Germany for the full duration of the internship (15 February – 12 August 2027)
- Effective communication skills and collaborative mindset
- Intellectual curiosity and motivation to understand how market fundamentals, data, and commercial decisions interact
Advantageous skills:
- Experience with SQL, data visualization, advanced modeling techniques, or applying machine learning/AI to market or trading problems
- Exposure to optimization, forecasting, time-series analysis, quantitative finance, algorithmic trading concepts, or large trade/market datasets
