Data Science Manager

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential fintech organization seeking a Data Science Manager to lead a high-performing team of Data Scientists and data professionals. In this role, you'll combine people leadership with strategic data direction, working closely with Product, Engineering, and senior stakeholders to ensure data plays a central role in decision-making and product development.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

• Leading, developing, and growing a team of exceptional Data Scientists and other data professionals
• Hiring, coaching, and retaining talented individuals while creating an environment where they can develop and do their best work
• Setting the Data Science direction for your area and identifying where data can have the greatest customer and business impact
• Partnering with Product, Engineering, and senior stakeholders to shape strategy and influence product direction
• Bringing analytical rigour to complex and ambiguous problems and helping teams turn them into clear, actionable opportunities
• Ensuring teams use the right analytical approaches, from experimentation and causal inference through to statistical modelling and machine learning
• Connecting Data Science work to measurable customer, product, and commercial outcomes
• Collaborating with Analytics Engineering, Machine Learning, and other data disciplines to ensure teams have the necessary data, tooling, and infrastructure
• Contributing to the wider Data Science discipline, helping continuously raise the bar for analytical quality and impact

What We're Looking For

Our client is seeking candidates with:

• Significant experience managing and developing Data Scientists
• Strong strategic data leadership skills with a proven ability to use data to influence decisions and direction
• Experience partnering with senior and executive stakeholders across different functions and levels of seniority
• Comfort working autonomously in a fast-growing and evolving organization
• Strong understanding of Data Science approaches including experimentation, causal inference, statistical analysis, and machine learning
• Proficiency with tools and languages such as Python and SQL, with an understanding of how to choose the right analytical approach for different problems
• Ability to build credibility with Product, Engineering, and senior business leaders and influence without relying on authority
• Strong product judgement and experience using Data Science to shape product development and strategy
• Ability to balance technical excellence with pragmatic decision-making and business impact
• Experience helping Data Scientists develop their technical, product, and leadership capabilities

Location: Cardiff or UK remote with occasional travel to London for meetings

Work arrangement: Flexible working hours with distributed working options within the UK
