Data Engineer (Intern)

We are representing a confidential AWS modernization consultancy seeking a Data Engineer Intern for a remote position. This apprenticeship focuses on data platform modernization work—migrating legacy warehouses to production-ready cloud environments. You'll write real pipeline code on client projects, collaborating with business stakeholders and engineering teams to build scalable data products.

This role offers exposure to agent-assisted engineering workflows. Automated tooling handles repetitive discovery and validation tasks, allowing you to focus on meaningful work: Spark development, ETL design, and understanding how data quality decisions impact business outcomes. Responsibilities

• Write efficient pipeline code using technologies like Apache Spark or Apache Beam
• Collaborate across engineering and business teams to deliver data products and services
• Explore new technologies and techniques to solve business problems creatively
• Deliver projects on schedule with the team, building strong execution habits early
• Work within agent-assisted workflows, learning to leverage automation as tooling while making architecture and implementation decisions

What We're Looking For

Required:

• Exposure to Apache Spark
• Exposure to ETL concepts using PySpark and SparkSQL
• Exposure to SQL queries and stored procedures
• Appetite to work on challenging projects with mentor-oriented leadership

Preferred:

• Prior experience with AWS EMR or Apache Airflow
• AWS Certified Big Data – Specialty, Azure, or Snowflake certifications
• Cloudera or Hortonworks Certified Big Data Engineer credentials
• Understanding of DataOps engineering practices
