Data Engineer/DBA – REMOTE (Bethesda, MD, US)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential federal contractor in their search for a Data Engineer/DBA to join their team remotely from the Bethesda, Maryland area. Our client supports mission-critical radiation exposure management systems for defense operations, requiring secure, scalable database solutions that meet stringent DoD compliance standards.

This is a remote position requiring U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain Secret clearance.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain secure SQL and NoSQL databases supporting dosimeter, personnel, and inventory management systems
• Develop and optimize data pipelines for ingestion, migration, and synchronization between edge devices, cloud services, and user applications
• Lead legacy data migration efforts, conflict resolution workflows, and data quality assurance processes
• Administer database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery solutions in compliance with DoD requirements
• Implement data encryption, access controls, and audit logging to ensure security and privacy compliance
• Collaborate with backend, edge, and frontend engineering teams to support seamless data integration
• Monitor and tune database performance, troubleshoot issues, and optimize queries for reliability and efficiency
• Maintain comprehensive technical documentation for database schemas, data flows, and operational procedures
• Participate in code reviews, security assessments, and compliance audits as required
• Provide technical support during user acceptance testing, deployment, and ongoing operations

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree
• Minimum 3 years of professional experience administering, testing, implementing, and optimizing SQL and/or NoSQL databases
• U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain Secret clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience designing and administering databases in regulated or mission-critical environments
• Proficiency with database performance tuning, backup/recovery, and disaster recovery planning
• Experience with data migration, ETL processes, and conflict resolution workflows
• Familiarity with DoD cybersecurity, privacy, and RMF requirements for IL4/IL5 systems
• Experience with AWS GovCloud, IoT data sources, and cloud-based data pipelines
• Strong documentation and communication skills, including technical specifications and data flow diagrams
• Experience supporting field deployment, troubleshooting, and operational support for distributed data systems
