Data Center Technician – Glasgow, Scotland

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential cloud infrastructure organization in their search for a Data Centre Technician to join their Glasgow operations. Our client operates cutting-edge data center facilities supporting high-performance computing workloads. This is a 100% on-site role where you'll be hands-on with physical infrastructure, ensuring maximum uptime and reliability for critical systems.

Responsibilities

• Execute physical hardware and network diagnostics to maintain data center availability and reliability
• Perform physical repairs and root cause analysis on equipment failures to maintain consistent service levels
• Develop documentation and scripts to update server and networking hardware configurations
• Train internal teams on hardware maintenance procedures and best practices
• Participate in a rotating on-call shift with 60-minute response time requirements for equipment failures
• Position and transport equipment weighing up to 22.5 kg (50 lbs) regularly
• Work in confined or elevated spaces including ladders and under-floor areas
• Travel up to 10% to other locations as required

What We're Looking For

Required:

• Hands-on computer hardware experience including physical assembly, diagnostic testing, and component troubleshooting
• Practical experience working within Linux operating systems
• Physical capability to regularly lift and position equipment up to 22.5 kg (50 lbs)
• Physical agility to maneuver in cramped or elevated spaces and remain stationary for extended periods
• Fine motor skills to handle delicate hardware components and cabling
• Ability to work comfortably in data center environmental conditions with temperatures ranging from 15°C to 32°C (60°F to 90°F)
• Flexibility to work in a 24/7 operational environment including rotating on-call schedules

Preferred:

• Practical knowledge of computer networking principles
• Experience with scripting languages such as Python or Bash
• Familiarity with network operating systems like Cisco IOS or Juniper JunOS
• Associate's Degree or equivalent practical experience in an IT-related discipline
