About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential metals trading and processing organization based in Cologne. We're seeking an experienced Data Analyst to join their international team at a pivotal growth stage. This role sits at the intersection of business, operations, and technology—turning complex operational and financial data into clear insights that drive measurable improvements across trading, processing, and supply chain operations.

You'll work hands-on with large, imperfect datasets, building the analytical foundation that supports business decisions. This means working directly with stakeholders to understand their data needs, performing deep analysis using SQL and modern analytics tools, and translating recurring requests into stable, automated reporting systems. Strong business acumen—particularly around financials and trading operations—will set you apart.

Responsibilities

  • Transform complex business questions into actionable analysis, identifying trends, risks, opportunities, and key performance drivers across trading and operational datasets
  • Build and maintain data transformations that turn raw data into clean, analysis-ready datasets within the data warehouse environment
  • Translate business requirements into well-structured, reusable data models and clearly defined metrics that serve as trusted sources of truth
  • Implement data quality checks and validation tests to ensure accuracy, consistency, completeness, and freshness—proactively resolving issues with stakeholders and engineering teams
  • Develop dashboards, reports, and analytical datasets optimized for self-service analytics, turning ad-hoc analysis into scalable, automated reporting
  • Partner closely with Product, Operations, Finance, Marketing, and Engineering teams to understand needs, challenge assumptions, and deliver meaningful analytical solutions
  • Maintain clear documentation for datasets, transformations, metrics, and data lineage using modern analytics engineering tools
  • Identify and improve manual analytical workflows through automation, modern data tooling, and AI-assisted analysis

What We're Looking For

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in Data Analytics, Product Analytics, Business Analytics, or a closely related analytical role with a proven track record of turning raw data into business decisions
  • Strong analytical and statistical thinking—able to identify trends, anomalies, and root causes, define meaningful metrics, and work confidently with imperfect or incomplete data
  • Independent, structured, and pragmatic approach with strong ownership. Comfortable bridging business stakeholders and engineering teams, communicating clearly across different levels and functions
  • Strong business understanding and analytical curiosity. Ability to quickly grasp complex, finance-driven business operations. Experience with financials, commodity trading, finance analytics, or accounting is a significant advantage
  • Advanced SQL skills including complex data transformations, joins, aggregations, window functions, and analytical data models
  • Proven experience with modern data warehouses (Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, Databricks, or similar), building and maintaining clean, reliable datasets for analysis and reporting
  • Experience with modern analytics engineering practices and tools such as dbt, including data modeling, automated quality tests, documentation, and data lineage
  • Strong experience with BI and visualization tools (Metabase, Looker, Tableau, Power BI, or similar), focused on building clear, performant dashboards and enabling self-service analytics
  • Curiosity about AI-assisted analytics and modern cloud data workflows while maintaining control and understanding of underlying data
  • Professional proficiency in English; German language skills are a plus given the Cologne location
