About the Role
As a Complex Claims Legal Consultant, you'll bring legal expertise to our claims operations, ensuring complex claim files receive thorough analysis and proper legal guidance. This role bridges our claims, underwriting, and legal functions, providing counsel on claims resolution, regulatory requirements, and risk mitigation for our commercial insurance portfolio.
What You'll Do
- Review and analyze complex claim files to assess legal exposure and coverage questions
- Provide legal opinions and recommendations to support claims management decisions
- Research applicable insurance law, policy language, and regulatory requirements
- Draft legal memoranda and communications on claims matters
- Collaborate with claims adjusters, underwriters, and outside counsel on claim resolution strategies
- Ensure claim file documentation meets legal and compliance standards
- Stay current with changes in insurance law and industry regulations affecting claims handling
What We're Looking For
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree and active bar admission (or eligibility for admission in Iowa)
- Prior experience in claims, insurance law, or legal consulting roles
- Strong knowledge of commercial property casualty insurance, coverage analysis, and claims practices
- Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills
- Ability to communicate complex legal concepts clearly to non-legal stakeholders
- Attention to detail and commitment to regulatory compliance
- Professional judgment and discretion in handling sensitive matters
