Community Experience Lead

We are representing a confidential nonprofit education organization that is transforming digital skills training across multiple African markets. Our talent team is seeking a Community Experience Lead to own the long-term vision and strategy for community engagement across the entire learner and alumni journey.

This is a fully remote role requiring strong self-motivation and comfort working in a digital-first environment across multiple time zones.

Responsibilities

As Community Experience Lead, you will:

• Define and drive the long-term Community Experience strategy, ensuring it remains member-led and embedded across the full talent lifecycle from recruitment through lifelong alumni engagement
• Lead and develop a small team (currently including a Community Program Specialist and Community Operations Associate), setting direction, providing coaching, and unblocking execution
• Manage cross-functional stakeholder relationships across Brand, Alumni Relations, Product, Regional teams, and leadership
• Own reporting on Community engagement, member satisfaction, and program impact to senior stakeholders using data-driven insights
• Set the roadmap for strategic initiatives including ambassador programs, engagement tracking systems, and resource hubs
• Manage the Community function's budget, forecasting costs and prioritizing investment
• Represent Community at the leadership table, aligning goals with organizational priorities and securing buy-in for Community initiatives
• Support and coach city-based Community Managers and Ambassadors on standards, tools, and ways of working
• Translate organizational goals into a clear Community roadmap and adjust strategy as needs evolve

What We're Looking For

Must-have qualifications:

• 5+ years of experience in community management, program management, or operations, with at least 2 years in a people-management or team-lead capacity
• Proven experience setting strategy and translating it into executable roadmaps
• Track record of managing and developing direct reports, including goal-setting, feedback, and coaching
• Strong stakeholder management skills with experience influencing cross-functional partners and senior leadership
• Comfort owning and reporting on KPIs, defining metrics, and communicating impact to various audiences
• Hands-on understanding of online community platforms (Discourse, Circle, Slack, Discord, or similar)
• Experience with member communications tools (Mailchimp, HubSpot, or similar)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to operate at both strategic and operational levels
• Experience working with cross-functional teams across multiple locations and time zones

Nice-to-have qualifications:

• Experience building or scaling community-led growth, ambassador, or referral programs
• Experience with data visualization or engagement analytics tools (Tableau, Power BI, or similar)
• Background in budget management or making business cases for program investment
• Knowledge of behavioral psychology or engagement strategies
• Experience operating in multi-market, distributed organizations
