About This Opportunity

Our talent team at Get A Job.ai is representing a confidential digital consulting organization in their search for an AI Engineer to join their growing practice. This is a remote, hands-on engineering role focused on designing, building, and shipping production AI systems that solve real business problems for enterprise clients.

You'll work across the complete delivery lifecycle—from ambiguous requirements through deployment and monitoring—building LLM-powered features, retrieval systems, and ML pipelines that go into production and stay there. This role combines technical depth with client partnership, requiring both strong engineering skills and the ability to communicate complex tradeoffs to non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Build and deploy production AI features including LLM-backed workflows, retrieval-augmented generation systems, agentic architectures, and classification pipelines
  • Own the data path: ingestion, chunking, embedding, indexing, and retrieval quality, improving based on measured outcomes
  • Design evaluation frameworks before shipping—define success metrics, build offline eval sets and online feedback loops, track regressions as systems evolve
  • Integrate AI capabilities into existing applications through well-designed APIs with attention to latency, cost, failure modes, and graceful degradation
  • Instrument and monitor deployed systems for quality drift, hallucination rates, token spend, and security risks
  • Apply responsible AI practices including data privacy, PII handling, prompt injection protection, and clear documentation of model limitations
  • Prototype rapidly to reduce uncertainty, then make deliberate decisions on what to harden versus discard
  • Contribute to reusable components, reference architectures, and internal standards
  • Explain technical tradeoffs to client stakeholders and executives clearly and honestly

What We're Looking For

Required:

  • 3+ years professional software engineering experience, including 1+ years building LLM or ML systems in production
  • Strong Python skills; working proficiency in at least one of TypeScript/JavaScript, C#, Java, or Go
  • Demonstrated experience shipping an AI feature end-to-end—you can walk through what you built, how you evaluated it, what broke, and what you changed
  • Practical command of modern LLM toolkit: prompt design, structured output, function/tool calling, context management, and orchestration frameworks
  • Experience with retrieval systems and vector search (pgvector, Azure AI Search, Pinecone, Elasticsearch, or similar), including debugging poor retrieval
  • Cloud deployment experience on Azure, AWS, or GCP, plus containers, CI/CD, and infrastructure-as-code
  • Solid data engineering instincts: SQL, handling messy real-world data, building resilient pipelines
  • Clear written and verbal communication; comfort operating with incomplete requirements

Preferred:

  • Consulting, agency, or client-facing delivery experience
  • Fine-tuning, distillation, or parameter-efficient adaptation of open-weight models
  • Experience with agent frameworks or multi-step tool-using systems in production
  • MLOps tooling (experiment tracking, model registries, feature stores) and LLM observability platforms
  • Background in regulated domains such as healthcare, financial services, insurance, or public sector
  • Speech, vision, or document-understanding work (OCR, layout parsing, multimodal models)
  • Open-source contributions, technical writing, or conference speaking
