About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential AI technology organization headquartered in London. This well-funded company operates at the intersection of artificial intelligence, advanced materials, and physical product development—working across the full lifecycle from research through manufacturing.

We're seeking a Communications Lead to define how this category-creating company is understood in the market. You'll be responsible for building the communications function from the ground up, translating deep technical work across AI, materials science, and hardware engineering into clear, distinctive narratives that resonate with investors, technical buyers, talent, and the broader market.

This is a strategic leadership role where you'll own brand voice, messaging frameworks, content strategy, and media relationships. You'll work directly with executive leadership to position the company as a category leader in an emerging space.

Responsibilities

• Define and own the external communications strategy—establishing how the organization is positioned, perceived, and understood across all markets
• Build and enforce consistency in brand voice across website, social channels, events, collateral, and press materials
• Develop messaging frameworks for the company's core technology platform and its applications across materials, engineering, and hardware development
• Write creative and messaging briefs for design, video, and campaign work, providing clear strategic direction to cross-functional teams
• Partner with the CFO and founders on investor messaging, translating technical milestones into compelling narratives for funding conversations
• Own long-form writing, thought leadership content, website copy, investor materials, and campaign assets from strategy through production
• Develop and execute organic social media strategy, building a distinctive point of view rather than just broadcast channels
• Manage website messaging and landing page copy, ensuring alignment with business priorities and maintaining quality standards
• Build the press function—strengthening media relationships, identifying coverage opportunities, and positioning leadership for speaking engagements
• Manage freelance communications resources and scale the function as the company grows

What We're Looking For

• Significant leadership experience in communications, content, editorial, or brand storytelling—ideally in technical, deep-tech, or science-adjacent environments
• Experience with investor communications or fundraising narratives strongly preferred
• Exceptional writing ability with strong editorial judgment; your portfolio should demonstrate range across long-form, short-form, and messaging work
• Deep curiosity about AI, science, engineering, or technical products—you follow these spaces because you're genuinely interested
• Proven ability to make complex technical concepts accessible without losing credibility or nuance
• Comfortable owning both strategy and execution—you can set direction, produce work, and build systems that maintain quality
• Experience building or significantly expanding a communications function from the ground up
• High standards for writing, messaging, and brand consistency with attention to detail
• Strong collaborative skills—you'll work closely with technical founders, engineers, and cross-functional teams
• Experience briefing and managing creative work including design, video, freelance writers, and press agencies
• Science degree or technical background preferred
