About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential engineering consulting organization that delivers mission-critical infrastructure solutions across data centers and advanced facility environments. Our talent team is seeking a Commissioning Project Manager to join their remote workforce and lead full life-cycle commissioning projects for complex electrical and mechanical systems.

This is a remote position based anywhere in the United States, with proximity to a major airport required. The role involves up to 50% domestic travel during steady-state operations, with higher travel (up to 75%) anticipated during the initial 6–9 month onboarding period. You must hold a valid driver's license and be prepared to meet the May 7, 2025 REAL ID requirement for domestic air travel.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all phases of commissioning projects from initiation through closeout, including pre-construction coordination, RFI management, submittal reviews, and scheduling
  • Develop and monitor commissioning plans, schedules, and budgets; forecast resource and material needs
  • Lead or participate in project meetings with owners, designers, contractors, and equipment vendors
  • Coordinate and perform quality assurance/quality control activities to ensure compliance with project scope and specifications
  • Oversee start-up, cutover, pre-functional and functional testing of critical systems
  • Prepare progress reports and final commissioning documentation for internal and external stakeholders
  • Monitor project financials including budgets, profitability, margins, and utilization; identify cost risks and implement mitigation strategies
  • Conduct on-site inspections, validation, functional testing, and troubleshooting of electrical and mechanical equipment
  • Develop testing plans, pre-functional checklists, and functional performance test scripts for complex projects
  • Review construction documents, shop drawings, submittals, and sequences of operation
  • Participate in factory witness testing and observe startup activities
  • Build and maintain client relationships; assist with proposal preparation and business development efforts
  • Communicate additional fee requirements or change orders to clients as needed

What We're Looking For

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction, or related discipline OR two years of hands-on experience with installation, testing, validation, and troubleshooting of mechanical, controls, or electrical infrastructure
  • PLUS a minimum of five additional years' experience with installation, hands-on testing, validation, and troubleshooting of mechanical, controls, or electrical infrastructure

Required Skills & Competencies:

  • Intermediate-level knowledge of project management, construction procedures, and industry best practices
  • Knowledge of business and management principles including strategic planning, resource allocation, and leadership
  • Understanding of materials, methods, and tools involved in constructing mission-critical or commercial facilities
  • Ability to manage personnel and material resources effectively
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in completing assignments
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Ability to serve as primary client contact and maintain positive client relationships
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams) and file management
  • Capability to work independently and collaboratively with onsite and remote team members
  • Ability to work successfully in a remote environment with self-motivation, proactiveness, and a distraction-free workspace
  • Skilled at managing multiple tasks simultaneously under pressure and meeting deadlines
  • Ability to analyze complex information and develop action plans
  • Willingness to leverage AI and emerging technologies to optimize workflows

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to remain stationary for extended periods and move through office and critical facility environments, including tight or confined spaces
  • During initial training: frequently ascending/descending stairs and ladders, occasionally positioning under/over equipment, and moving equipment up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to work in varying environmental conditions including low/high temperatures and outdoor elements
