PATH (People Assisting the Homeless) is hiring a Clinician to join our Interim Housing Services team in San Diego County. In this full-time position, you'll provide specialized clinical support to veterans experiencing housing instability, working alongside case managers and housing specialists to help overcome mental health barriers to stable housing.
About the Role
This is a clinical position serving the veteran population within our interim housing program. You'll be the mental health expert on the team, applying your clinical training to crisis situations and treatment planning, and mentoring non-clinical staff on mental health issues related to housing stability.
What You'll Do
- Respond to mental health crises and conduct risk assessments to ensure client safety and stability.
- Provide clinical consultation and mental health training to program staff as needed.
- Identify and refer clients to appropriate mental health and substance use treatment programs and coordinate their continued care.
- Deliver short-term counseling to clients while treatment referrals are being processed.
- Partner with case managers, housing specialists, and team members on integrated service planning.
What We're Looking For
Ideal candidates will combine clinical expertise with strong interpersonal skills suited to a high-impact, mission-driven environment:
- Master's degree in social work or a related field (psychology, counseling, etc.) and current California registration as an ASW, AMFT, or APCC; LCSW, LMFT, or LPCC license preferred.
- Ability to communicate clinical concepts clearly with both professionals and clients.
- Collaborative approach; you work well within teams toward shared outcomes.
- Analytical skills to assess client needs and evaluate progress.
- Professional ethics and strong boundary maintenance.
- Proactive problem-solving with creative, independent thinking.
- Valid California driver's license and reliable transportation for work duties.

Founded in 1984, PATH operates across California providing street outreach, employment preparation, case management, and housing services to people experiencing homelessness. We help an average of 23 individuals per week transition into stable housing. Requirements and Conditions of Employment
- U.S. work authorization required; we cannot sponsor visas.
- Must obtain CPR/First Aid certification as a condition of employment.
- Tuberculosis testing, background screening, and drug screening required prior to hire.
- Proof of vehicle insurance and ownership for work-related driving.
- Ability to qualify for PATH's employment-based insurance coverage.
- Cannot be currently receiving PATH services or have received services within the past two years.
- All work will be conducted within California.
