About the Role
Timmons Group is seeking a skilled Civil Project Engineer II/III focused on land development to join our engineering team in Newport News, VA. In this full-time position, you'll take ownership of mid-to-large-scale land development projects, from initial planning through final construction oversight, working closely with clients, design teams, and contractors to deliver exceptional results.
Your Responsibilities
- Design and oversee site development plans, grading, and drainage systems for residential, commercial, and mixed-use projects
- Manage project schedules, budgets, and deliverables while maintaining compliance with local, state, and federal regulations
- Coordinate with architects, landscape designers, environmental specialists, and utility providers to integrate disciplines across land development projects
- Conduct site assessments and feasibility studies to evaluate project constraints and opportunities
- Prepare technical documentation, engineering reports, and permit applications
- Perform quality assurance reviews on design calculations and construction drawings
- Communicate project status, risks, and solutions to clients and internal stakeholders
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field
- 5+ years of professional experience in land development, site design, or civil project engineering
- Proficiency with civil engineering software such as AutoCAD and survey or design platforms
- Strong understanding of site development, drainage design, and grading standards
- Excellent technical writing and communication skills
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred or in progress
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines
