About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential online marketplace client seeking an experienced Category Manager to lead their Asian & Tribal Arts division. This is a commercially focused leadership role spanning France, Italy, and the Netherlands, responsible for driving growth across a culturally rich category that includes Asian Art, Tribal & Ethnographic Art, and related collecting segments.

You'll own category strategy, P&L performance, and commercial execution while leading an international team of specialists. This role requires balancing growth with quality, making data-driven decisions about supply mix and auction performance, and building credible relationships with sellers, dealers, and institutions across European markets.

The position is based in the Netherlands with hybrid work requirements, including two days per week in the Amsterdam office for cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute strategic growth plans for the Asian & Tribal Arts category, identifying priority opportunities and translating them into measurable actions
• Own category P&L and commercial outcomes, using data to make investment decisions and optimize growth, margin, quality, and operational stability
• Manage the full auction performance funnel including supply quality, curation pace, pricing strategy, sell-through rates, and buyer experience
• Shape auction planning based on seasonality, market dynamics, collector behavior, and seller portfolios to increase repeatable high-quality supply
• Collaborate with Sales and Business Development teams to build and convert a robust seller pipeline
• Represent the organization credibly in external networks with sellers, dealers, institutions, and professional communities
• Lead, coach, and develop an international team of category experts, setting clear expectations and managing performance accountability
• Drive cross-functional alignment with Marketing, Operations, Product, and Commercial teams to unlock growth opportunities
• Monitor global market trends, pricing dynamics, collector demand, and competitive movements, converting insights into action

What We're Looking For

• Proven commercial track record in category management, marketplace operations, retail, sales, or similar customer-led businesses with measurable commercial ownership
• Experience building and executing growth strategies including planning, budgeting, pricing, and P&L management
• Data-driven, action-oriented approach with ability to diagnose complex situations, prioritize actions, and ensure accountable follow-through
• Demonstrated people leadership experience coaching specialists, setting high standards, and handling performance conversations
• Commercial curiosity and entrepreneurial mindset with willingness to test assumptions and adapt to changing market conditions
• Decisiveness and resilience in fast-paced environments, comfortable making trade-offs and defending strategic positions
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills across seniority levels and functions
• Hands-on mindset balanced with strategic thinking and ability to build scalable systems
• Proficiency with Google Suite or similar productivity tools
• Interest or background in Asian Art, Tribal Art, or Collectables is advantageous but not required; commercial judgment and ability to build trust are essential
• Fluency in English required; additional European languages beneficial given the multi-country scope
