About This Opportunity
We are representing a confidential media agency serving a major technology client in London. This Business Director, Media Planning role offers the opportunity to lead strategic media planning at scale, managing complex campaigns and driving team excellence within a specialized account structure.
As a senior planning leader, you will serve as the discipline lead for a dedicated product area, overseeing campaign strategy from planning through post-campaign analysis. You will act as a trusted advisor to clients, manage cross-functional alignment, and lead a high-performing team while driving innovation and strategic thought leadership across EMEA.
Responsibilities
- Lead all media planning work for a major product area, ensuring strategic rigor and high-quality execution across all campaigns and deliverables
- Serve as primary point of escalation for complex campaign challenges, navigating solutions with clients and senior leadership
- Interrogate and review all campaigns to guarantee quality standards and alignment with business objectives
- Drive continuous process improvement and elevate overall planning product through strategic and tactical thought leadership
- Facilitate media work prioritisation decisions alongside directors and client leadership to manage team bandwidth effectively
- Lead client presentations and develop strategic points of view that address broader business challenges beyond day-to-day briefs
- Oversee creation and presentation of centralised insights that influence overall account strategy and direction
- Proactively identify untapped opportunities and craft solutions to drive measurable business impact
- Line manage up to 5 direct reports, supporting career growth roadmaps, setting goals, and delivering continuous feedback
- Coach and train team members on effective storytelling across written, verbal, and visual planning deliverables
- Collaborate closely with analytics and client services teams to ensure campaigns align with broader business objectives
- Drive multiple central project workstreams for EMEA and foster cross-regional partnerships
What We're Looking For
- Director or Business Director level experience in media planning with proven ability to run and motivate high-performing teams
- Strong background in digital advertising and media planning with deep knowledge of the media landscape
- Demonstrated ability to execute at scale on large, complex, multi-partner campaigns simultaneously
- Expert knowledge of full-funnel strategy (brand and direct response) and strong vendor relationships
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with ability to lead strategic conversations with senior clients
- Strong analytical mindset with ability to analyze data, extract insights, and develop actionable recommendations
- Active interest in digital media and how digital innovation drives business change
- Ability to think strategically and answer high-level business questions drawing upon deep market knowledge
- Experience working in collaborative team environments while driving independent initiative
- Knowledge of third-party research tools and industry resources
- Right to work in the UK is required for this London-based position
