Backend Developer (Java/Spring Boot)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential technology organization seeking a Backend Developer (Java/Spring Boot) to join their fully remote product development team in Germany. This is a project-focused engagement running through February 2027, offering the opportunity to work on modern digital products with meaningful technical ownership and autonomy.

You'll build reliable backend systems, REST APIs, microservices, and database solutions while collaborating with cross-functional teams including frontend engineers, QA, DevOps, product managers, and designers. Responsibilities

• Develop clean, maintainable, and efficient backend applications using Java and Spring Boot
• Design and build secure REST APIs and backend services for frontend applications and system integrations
• Develop and maintain PostgreSQL database schemas, queries, indexes, and migrations using Hibernate/JPA
• Translate product and business requirements into robust backend functionality and well-structured business logic
• Develop and maintain microservices within distributed backend architectures
• Implement third-party integrations and internal services based on project requirements
• Ensure data accuracy, consistency, validation, and proper handling of edge cases
• Write and maintain automated tests in collaboration with QA engineers
• Take ownership of assigned features from implementation through testing, release, and delivery
• Participate in code reviews, pull requests, and collaborative development workflows
• Identify and communicate unclear requirements, technical risks, and potential blockers proactively
• Contribute to improving engineering practices, code quality, and team processes

What We're Looking For

• 3+ years of professional backend development experience
• Strong practical knowledge of modern Java development; experience with Java 21 preferred
• Hands-on experience building backend applications and services with Spring Boot
• Practical experience with Hibernate/JPA and ORM-based persistence
• Good knowledge of PostgreSQL, relational databases, SQL, data modeling, and query performance
• Experience designing, implementing, testing, and consuming RESTful APIs
• Practical experience with automated backend testing
• Comfortable using Git, pull requests, code reviews, and collaborative development workflows
• Familiarity with microservices and distributed systems
• Experience with Domain-Driven Design or Event-Driven Architecture is a plus
• Familiarity with AWS or another cloud environment is advantageous, particularly ECS/Fargate
• Experience in fintech, SaaS, HR, payroll, ERP, or complex enterprise platforms is beneficial
• Strong ownership and autonomy with the ability to manage features independently
• Strong communication and collaboration skills with technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Ability to translate business requirements into reliable, well-structured backend solutions
• Fluent professional English required
• Spanish language skills are a significant advantage for collaboration with LATAM stakeholders
• Comfortable working remotely and organizing your schedule around required collaboration windows (9:00 AM–7:00 PM CET)

Pay
