Automation Engineer (gn) – 40 Std, (hybrid) (München)

About This Role

We are representing a confidential technology company based in München that is building sophisticated automation infrastructure to connect their business systems. They need an experienced Automation Engineer to design, build, and maintain workflow automations that integrate CRM, support tools, email, and calendar systems into seamless, reliable processes.

This is a hybrid position requiring 3 days per week in the München office, with 2 days remote work.

Responsibilities

• Build and operate n8n-based automations connecting CRM, customer support platforms, email, and calendar systems into cohesive workflows including AI-assisted ticket classification, intelligent escalation routing, and critical event notifications
• Develop automation logic and workflow rules within the support tooling, ensuring escalation models are technically sound and data synchronizes reliably between systems
• Integrate AI components where they deliver genuine time savings and value, with privacy and data minimization built into the design from the start—determining which data can be transmitted to models and which cannot
• Build with security and quality consciousness: test new flows in inactive mode with realistic test cases, implement deduplication logic, fallbacks, and error handling before production deployment
• Collaborate closely with Operations and Customer Success teams, translating operational pain points into concrete, robust automations
• Communicate proactively and transparently about workflow status and timelines
• Leverage AI tools like Claude or Cursor to accelerate development, experiment with new solutions, and build capabilities that wouldn't otherwise be feasible

What We're Looking For

• Required: Proven experience with workflow automation platforms (ideally n8n, Zapier, or Make) or backend development background with strong focus on APIs and system integrations
• Confident working with REST APIs and webhooks; ability to read and debug JSON payloads efficiently and troubleshoot integration flows
• Experience with Zoho ecosystem (CRM, Desk) is a significant plus; Deluge scripting not required, but willingness to learn quickly and independently is essential
• Strong intuition for integrating AI components (classification, text generation) into production workflows while understanding automation limitations and when human decision-making is necessary
• Solid knowledge of JavaScript/TypeScript or Python for developing custom code nodes when needed
• Structured, security-conscious approach: thinking through test cases before activation, implementing fallbacks for errors, and ensuring workflows are understandable and maintainable by others
• Proactive, clear communication—especially when timelines shift or issues arise; Operations and Customer Success teams can rely on you as a dependable partner
• Comfortable using AI tools like Claude and Cursor to boost productivity and achieve better results
• Very good German and English skills (minimum C1 level)
